Remnants of Winter at Larson Park
Todays walk took me to Larson Park, which is a community park in Brookings, SD. It provides multiple recreation for visitors. It is a 15 acre park with a basketball court, and playground equipment. It seems the playground equipment is more than 30 years old, and an upgrade is coming in the spring of 2020. The biggest attraction seems to be the 18-hole disc golf course for novice and veterans alike. This park includes picnic tables, and a paved recreation trail for biking and walking, it is also lighted. Today the trail in one section was still snowed under and icy, so I took a shortcut through the grass, it was a little safer for me. I was not able to find how much trail there is to walk, but it is a pleasant trail. There is also a multi-purpose field that provides additional recreational opportunities to the community. Off-street parking included is always a plus for me.
Looks like the Larson Hill was once a sledding hill, but from what I read it has been closed to sledders in 2015 with too many safety concerns.
There has been a proposal for improvement by adding a Picnic Shelter.
